CAST
Ed Sheridan
(Matthew John Curtis)
Ed is within spitting distance of graduating from Edinburgh University with a degree in Classics. During his four years with the Edinburgh University Theatre Company (EUTC) he has appeared in well over ten shows. He has also been part of a regular and successful sketch show at The Stand. At last year’s festival, Ed turned his hand to musical theatre when he performed the role of ‘Benny’ in the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s production of Rent (4 stars, BroadwayBaby). This year, Ed co-founded and became president of the Edinburgh University Shakespeare Company (EUSC); on top of this, he performed the role of Aaron in Titus Andronicus and directed a sell-out production of Macbeth, which later enjoyed a very successful Highland tour.
Alexandra Wetherell
(Theo)
Alex has just completed her second year at Edinburgh University studying Sociology and Politics. She has so far performed in nine shows with the EUTC including Priestley’s classic, An Inspector Calls and Stephen Greenhorn’s road trip comedy, Passing Places. Alex is also part of the National Youth Theatre and the Edinburgh University Shakespeare Company, having taken her highly memorable role of ‘first murderer’ in Macbeth on their Highland tour. Alex’s acting talents have even been showcased across the pond, when she studied at the New York Film Academy back in 2006.
Soon to enter his fourth and final year in English Literature, 2009-2010 has been a particularly jampacked year for Paul as a member of the EUTC; in November, he played Ariel in Martin McDonagh’s black comedy The Pillowman (5 stars, The Student and shortlisted for NSDF 2010) and in February, he took on the leading role in Frank McGuiness’ prison drama Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me. He also joined Alex on the EUSC’s Highland Tour, performing the part of Malcolm. Next year, Paul will turn his hand to directing as he tackles Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire for the EUTC.
Third year in Neuroscience and Pharmacology looms for Llinos in September but before then, she is very much looking forward to performing at the Fringe. 2009-2010 has been Llinos’ first year as part of the EUTC, during which her performance as both a rabid jackal and an omniscient kite in a 5 star, sell-out run of Rudyard’s Kipling’s The Jungle Book earned well-deserved acclaim – ‘Llinos Henry is particularly memorable in her talented double-up’ (The Student).
Sophie Pemberton
(Female Supporting Roles)
During her first year with the EUTC Sophie has delivered several outstanding performances, beginning with a supporting role in The Pillowman, progressing to the leading part of Estelle in Satre’s No Exit and completing the year with a female portrayal of King Duncan in Macbeth. During this festival, Sophie is not only taking part in Wild Allegations; she is also starring in another piece of exciting new writing, Jacob’s Ladder by Emily Moir.
Tom Watret
(Male Supporting Roles)
Tom is about to embark on his second year in Law. During his first year with the EUTC he has inexplicably played a series of consistently dark figures, beginning with a midget-loathing Nikolas Sarkozy (!) in ‘Freshers’ Play’, progressing to Emperor Saturninus in Titus Andronicus, Richard III in ‘Shakespeare’s Villains’ and a murderer in Macbeth. As well as being a very accomplished actor, Tom is also something of a star when it comes to legal debating, having enjoyed major success at the University’s ‘mooting’ competition this year.
