Bedlam Theatre August 16th — 28th @ 1PM (Preview 6th @ 4PM) - Book now!

"In a Fringe increasingly dominated by big-name acts and grandstand venues, it is heartening to see its founding spirit so alive at Bedlam. Wild Allegations is an exemplary piece of new writing and a highly enjoyable hour."

Slick, funny, cynical theatre about judgement and self-deception, as a cool seductress and a vengeful nobody conspire with you to destroy a rising star. Which of them can you trust?

From the company who brought you Ella Hickson’s Eight (Carol Tambor and Fringe First Awards 2008) comes a dynamic piece of original writing, an intriguing character drama that explores the dissatisfaction and hypocrisy of three young adults.

An engaging fusion of emotional intricacy and bittersweet comedy, Wild Allegations presents Matthew John Curtis, the quirky, quixotic leading man of the stage and screen. According to his enraged brother and disillusioned occasional girlfriend however, he is also a liar, a cheat and a fraud. As these two zealous narrators bear their souls and rapidly divulge a series of amusingly petty indictments, they paint an equally damning yet conflicted picture of Matthew. But whilst they independently plot to bring him down, a hubristic fallibility gradually emerges; obsessed with exposing Matthew’s faults, Alex and Theo fatally disregard their own. When their various schemes begin to crash down around them, they are forced to confront the jealousy and spite that has ultimately instigated their own self-destruction.

Celebrating its 30th birthday at Bedlam Theatre this year, the Edinburgh University Theatre Company has consistently showcased exciting new writing, promising acting talent and professional, diverse productions. It has also forged a strong presence at the Fringe since its conception. Wild Allegations, selected as the EUTC’s official 2010 Fringe show alongside resident sell-out comedy troupe The Improverts, is co-written and co-directed by acclaimed student author David K. Barnes, whose previous shows include Timothy (5 stars – The Student) and Sweet Jesus (4 stars – The Student).

Wild Allegations is proud to be taking part in the Five Pound Fringe 2010 ("Every ticket - Every Show - Five Pounds")
